July Updates
So far summer has been great! But it sure has been busy. I apologize for the late email, but here are a few things coming up that you might want to know...
Squats
We are still continuing with our Squat program. Already we have seen some pretty big strength gains, but we are just over half way. For the next 4-5 weeks we will start doing smaller sets of reps with heavier weight to prepare for a 2 rep max at the end. Just want to give you guys a heads up where we are going.
T-Shirts
We just put in an order for our Athlete T-shirts to be ready within the next few weeks so be on the lookout for those! We did not do a pre-order so those will be first come first serve at the gym.
Athlete of the Month - Amy Harris
Amy is one of our dedicated 5am crew members. She teaches at Jacksonville State and runs a house with some awesome kids who are a part of CrossFit Kids too. When you see Amy, give her a high five. She deserves it.
Food for Thought
Often times, as athletes, we get caught in the thought that "I must punish myself to see improvement". This isn't true though. Your body can only handle so much "punishment". From a scientific standpoint, the more difficult movements especially the ones that you hate emotionally, produce more cortisol which is the stress hormone. Literally, your body can only take so much.
While we try our best to avoid over stressing your bodies when we are programming, we can't control what happens outside of the gym. It is inevitable that times are going to come when working out feels not near as fun as it once was. My advice on that and the whole point of this, is to make the workouts fun again. Go lighter, bring a friend, go to the class with your favorite coach, go to the class with your secret gym crush, change the movement to something similar but less difficult (talk to the coach first), don't out too much pressure on yourself to perform, it really doesn't matter what you do just take those stresses away. Chances are when you start doing that, the workouts will start to be more fun again and you can get back after it.
You must enjoy what we do in the gym or else it's only a matter of time before you find a reason to not come anymore. So before that happens, fight for it to be fun again. And it may be only be fun because of the people and not the workouts, but that's still a good reason too.
You guys have done an incredible job of being consistent through a crazy busy summer, le'ts keep that up! See you in the gym!
