June Updates

June is awesome, and it's here. Here is what we have coming up!

Squats!

Our squat cycle starts Monday for our CrossFit classes! We will be Back Squatting on Mondays and Front Squatting on Thursdays. If you have been with us for a while you know where we stand on squats. We think they are the most beneficial thing you can do for strength and overall health (that includes losing weight and abs!). As we have done in the past, we will start slow with tempo squats, then pauses, and finish with normal squats over the course of 8-10 weeks. Let's have fun with it!

CrossFit Kids

CrossFit Kids starts Monday June 6th! Classes are at 1015am on Monday and Wednesday. Coach Kelsea is fired up and ready to get these kids moving. We still have some spots open if anyone is still wanting to sign up. Kids can even sign up on the first day.

Teens Strength Training

Our Teens Strength summer program starts Monday June 6th also! Classes will be at 2pm on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Shane is pumped about coaching this class this year and helping these young guys and girls how to build strength and lift correctly!

Yard Sale

We are hosting a Yard Sale on Saturday June 11th! Anyone can set up a table. You are welcome to bring your stuff to the gym on Friday the 10th after the last class to have it ready. The Yard Sale will start at 6am! If you aren't selling anything, we hope you will still swing by and see us!

Athlete of the Month - Tres Buzan

Tres is the man. Tres coaches basketball and Football at Jacksonville High School so he often is in and out of the gym quickly during the season. But he rarely misses workouts even though with his schedule he could find plenty of excuses not to make it. When you see Tres give him a solid fist bump.

Food for Thought

The psychological aspect of what we do at the gym is often times as beneficial as the physical work itself. I'm just as intrigued by what changes in our minds as I am by how our bodies change. Think about it. You showed up day #1 at the gym, not knowing what you are about to get into. That's uncomfortable. You did the workout. It was likely very uncomfortable too. But you came back again anyway. This time it probably wasn't any less uncomfortable. And on top of that, you are now sore, which is uncomfortable. Fast forward 1 month, 6 months, 1 year, or even 5 years and guess what, working out is still uncomfortable (sorry for those of you who just started and thought the workouts would become easy)!

You came back, though, because after the workout you felt good and your attitude was better, even briefly. Then you kept coming back because you bonding with someone over how uncomfortable the workout was and now you made a new friends. Then you kept coming back because you see the physical changes happening to your body and you like them. And you still keep coming back, now, because you see the value that the gym and the workouts add to your life.

Here's what I'm getting at. The workouts are uncomfortable. That never ends. I've done this for 10 years and the effort I put in feels the same as it did 10 years ago, and it's likely the same for you. But you CHOOSE to put yourself in an uncomfortable workout knowing and trusting that on the other side of that, good things will happen. Short term and long term good things.

Now apply that outside the gym. It's uncomfortable to not hit snooze and get your day started earlier. It's uncomfortable to cook your food instead of ordering pizza. It's uncomfortable to speak in front of a group of people when you have the opportunity. It's uncomfortable to initiate a conversation with someone you don't know but want to get to know. But now, because of something as simple as going to the gym, you aren't as afraid of being uncomfortable anymore. Because you know that those situations reap some pretty great benefits! So you get up early and be more productive. You eat healthier and love the way you look and feel. You speak and earn the respect of a crowd by sharing what you nerd out about. You start a new relationship and that person one day becomes your spouse. Who knows! But know this, you aren't just changing physically by the coming to the gym. We are all becoming better people because we know good things come from uncomfortable situations.

Sorry, got carried away on that one!

See you guys in the Gym!
