February Updates

Hey Guys!

We apologize for the delayed February updatel, but we do have an exciting month!

Kipping Handstand Push Up Work Shop - Friday February 18th @ 615pm

Friday the 18th, we are going to do a workshop and specifically look at kipping Handstand Push Ups. We will start right after the 515pm class on Friday. We know this is a skill that many of you would like to work towards, and we want to take the time to teach you where to start and how to progress towards becoming efficient at kipping handstand pushups.

These workshops are the time to really work on movements or skills that we don't always get to cover in depth during a class. So if possible, if kipping handstand pushups are a goal of yours, try to make it! I will be fun!

Open Skills Workshop - February 19th

Also, on Saturday February 19th all of our coaches are going to be at the gym at 8am for you guys to come ask for help and work on any skills or movements that you feel like you want to improve. Heading into the Open is always a time to look at things you want to improve, and all of our coaches have the knowledge to help you progress towards your goal. Take advantage of this time as well! Then hang around for our normal Saturday workout at 9am.

Thelo Games 2022 - Saturday May 14th

Just like last year, we do plan on having our Thelo Games Competition this year and again, opening it up to local CrossFit Athletes around the area. This competition has been a blast every year that we have done it, and we don't expect anything different this year.

We want a lot of participation from members within out gym; this is a great competition to start with if you have ever wanted to do one. We will have 2 person teams (M/M or F/F) with Scaled and RX divisions.

If you aren't wanting to participate but would be willing to volunteer to help that day, please do! We will need close to 30 volunteers to keep the competition running smooth. If you would like to volunteer, whether that be a judge, check-in desk worker, or just general helper, please let us know! We will have a sign up sheet at the gym soon. But you can also go ahead and email us that you would like to help. We will need volunteers from 730am - 2pm on that day!

The Open

As you have heard, the Open start next week. CrossFit HQ will announce the workouts on Thursday at 2pm, and athletes will have until Monday afternoon to do the workout. We will program this workout for Friday classes 5am, 6am, and 11am which will be run as a normal class. Then on Friday afternoon, we will have Friday Night Lights. The way this will work is athletes will reserve a time slot to do the workout, similar to a competition, but this will not be like a normal coach led class. Heat times will start around 4pm and we will have 5-8 athletes workout every 20min-30min until everyone has completed the workout. It is important to note that you need to be at the gym at least 30min before your heat time in order to warm up properly on your own.

Other things to note:

  • You do NOT need to be a on an open team to do the workout or participate in Friday Night Lights

  • Heat Reservations will be done through the Push Press app. Make sure you know how to reserve a class!

  • Remember, it is just another workout, but a little friendly competition keeps things fun

  • If you miss the workout Friday, you will have a chance to do it on Saturday. On these Saturdays, we will have a group doing the Open Workout but also program a regular Saturday Workout for those who have already done it.

  • The Open last for 3 Weeks (February 24, March 3, & March 10).

Food for Thought:

If you are trying to lose body fat, you need to put optimizing (in terms of energy) your workouts on a back burner for a bit. When you are in a calorie deficit (which is required for weight loss), you will feel like you have less energy. With this in mind, your workouts may not feel the best. But this is temporary; as soon as you have cut some body fat you can start adding back in more carbs for energy in your workouts to optimize them a little more.

You Guys are awesome! We will see you in the gym!
